I am a Special Education Resource Teacher who is specializing in teaching Dyslexia. I also coach other teachers in the approached to instruction. 1 in 5 students has a form of dyslexia. We now know that a dyslexic brain does not go away. Research indicates the right hemisphere frontal lobe (associated with language) is larger than the left hemisphere. This is the language portion of the brain and creates impacts to auditory learning. It also impacts directionality, and can result in dyslexia, dysgraphia (writing) and dyscalculia (math). The items contained will be used in reading lessons in conjunction with the Barton Reading System (an Orton Gillingham Based Reading system). The materials will supplement extra practice for my readers. Focus is difficult for some of my students with dyslexia. ADD often accompanies Dyslexia. Sensory tools will be held by the students and for breaks. Directionality is impacted so magnetic tools will helpe with language such as "above, below, beside" in constructing items. The whiteboard will help me become more mobile as I push into classrooms where I work with more students beyond those on my caseloads.
