These items will help my students catch up, engage and excel in the classroom. The problems with COVID-19 have really set my students back, and they continue to do so, as students have to quarantine when they or a family member either get COVID-19 or are exposed to it. The printer will help my students get immediate feedback after taking reading tests. We can immediately print out the results and look at the results together. We'll be able to discuss what they did well and what they can focus on improving. Currently I have to wait until the group of students who just tested leaves my room, so I can go to a different room and get their results. The 1:1 discussion has to wait until the next day or even over the weekend, depending on what day of the week it is. The incentives such as the fidgets and Smencils will help my students take the tests seriously and do their homework. When school was all virtual, due to COVID-19, classwork was homework - or work at home. So now fewer students are doing their homework! This being a time when they need so desperately to catch-up, it’s not the time for them to not be reading at home. Churchill County is a high COVID-transmitive county, so teachers are required to wear masks. This makes it difficult in both my speaking and my reading classes for students to hear the enunciations of the words I speak. The voice amplifier will help students hear me better while I’m still wearing my mask. It can also help my students be heard better, when they are speaking to the whole class.
