Soldering is an important skill for all levels of learners. The students in my STEM classes need to be able to successfully solder items throughout their course of instruction. Soldering is a skill that can be used throughout a student’s educational and even professional career. For my students, the opportunity to learn to solder will make working with electronic equipment so much easier. With a basic knowledge of soldering, students will be able to correct mistakes by simply heating the soldered pieces to make any corrections. In past years, my students have had issues with electronic wires breaking from their welds. In order to complete the project, I must find someone to solder the weld back together for them. If my students had the capability to solder for themselves, they would be able to “fix” the problem(s) on their own.
Soldering is an essential skill that could make a big difference in a student’s life. It could also cause them to find a new hobby or even a potential career that may not have otherwise been thought about. Learning to solder will give the students an opportunity to learn about how to make those quick and neat connections when working with electronic equipment (circuits) or even jewelry. Soldering is a great way for students to gain a small insight into the field of welding. The soldering equipment and kits will be a great starting point for my students to learn this skill.
