The book shelves will help tremendously as it is needed to store individualized materials that students use daily for independent work centers for literacy and math. During literacy centers, they know what their focus area is (rhyming, decoding, isolating sounds, etc) and I have the materials set up on the shelf so they are able to walk to it and get the individualized center of their choice and take it back to their work space to complete. While students are independently working, I am either monitoring the students, working with a student 1 on 1, or working with a small skill group (differentiated based on the area of need). Allowing students to get their center on their own, teaches them good work habits, strengthens independence, and at the same time giving them freedom to choose!
