Students will be able to complete lab activities that relate to the Nevada Academic Content Standards. Chemical reactions are important for students to understand and this leads into areas such as stoichiometry and kinetics. The specific standard that will be addressed in this area is HS.PS. 1-5 (Apply scientific principles and evidence to provide an explanation about the effects of changing the temperature or concentration of the reacting particles on the rate at which a reaction occurs). Engineering skills will also be at play and the standard addressed is HS-ETS 1-1 (Analyze a major global challenge to specify qualitative and quantitative criteria and constraints for solutions that account for societal needs and wants). Students will get to experience how to conduct a lab, such as measuring chemicals and working on their science skills. Lab aprons will be used for students to conduct experiments as well as equipment used for measuring to fulfill the lab. Students missed out on lab experiences due to Covid, and they need hands on work to make up for last year.
