My students are online learners working toward earning their Carnegie units needed for graduation. All courses include video instruction as well as hands-on projects to complete within each unit. One advantage of online learning is that students are allow to work at their own pace; however, with approximately 20 students per class, many have problems focusing on their individual lessons when multiple videos are playing at one time. The headphones will allow students to listen and focus on instruction within their own scheduled courses. The headphones will also be used to provide student accommodations during standardized testing.
In addition, 75% of my students are enrolled in foreign language courses and are required to complete speaking assignments. Most of these students are apprehensive about speaking a new language in front of others so a section of the class is set apart so that they can prepare for exams and feel comfortable speaking into a microphone to record their responses. It has made a huge difference in their scores and their overall success.
Most importantly, it provides students the necessary tools to achieve their goals and embrace a new era of learning.
