Many of my students have not been outside of Las Vegas to see the mountains, Lake Mead, trees, or animals in the wild. It is difficult to explain different scientific concepts using real world examples when they have no reference points! Using 3-D models such as the Earth, Sun, and Moon Model help to bring large concepts like seasons, lunar/solar eclipse, months, and years easily into perspective. The microscope will give them the ability to see cells, the basic unit of life! Visual models of concepts involved with Earth topography, land forms, cell structures, and the functions of DNA with posters and foldables in their daily view will reinforce their understanding and recollection.
