Being able to perform and practice with the real materials is key to successful playing! The difference in results between substitute materials versus having the real materials is easy to spot via sight and sound. Shoulder rests are an important part toward letting a violin or viola player hold their instruments properly. Once they can do that, then they can really hear their potential as a musician! The rock stops allow cello and bass players to keep their instruments from sliding on the stage floor. Otherwise, their music is going to slip away from them... quite literally!
