Many of my students say they don't enjoy reading, but if I put a relatable novel in their hands, they can't seem to put it down. My students love to read books that show empathy and focus on social awareness and acceptance. Because I have seen firsthand their love of reading during our first novel study, I have requested a class set of the novel, Freak the Mighty. Getting this novel in the hands of my students will help to continue to grow their love of reading and learning. This novel will also assist us in having extraordinary discussions around the topics of awareness, friendship, and persistence.
