When practicing mindfulness, it is essential to have a classroom atmosphere that exudes comfortability. By having more comfortable and flexible furniture, we can better suit the needs of students who need that extra support. Meeting the social and emotional needs of students is crucial for effective development, and certain items are required in order to accomplish this. The additional aid of social-emotional learning materials is needed to better serve students and show them how to manage their emotions appropriately. Mindfulness workbooks, self-esteem activities, and emotion flipbooks would all greatly benefit my students. Other interactive materials, such as sensory toys or card games, can also help give the students a sense of physicality when building social skills. Also, with beanbag chairs and rugs, we can allow for a more inviting and homely space. A hopscotch rug, a roadmap rug, and an area rug are on my list to allow for interactive learning. I am also asking for several large, suede beanbag chairs to provide comfortable seating for students. From brief check-ins to lengthier counseling sessions, these materials would all contribute significantly to my students' social-emotional learning and development.
