My students have delays in certain learning-to-learn skills such as compliance and self-management skills. The use of toys and other sensory materials as positive reinforcers are very helpful in motivating my students to stay on-task and meet their goals. Although we already have toys as reinforcers in our classroom, they lose their value over time due to satiation. My students have also been dealing with shortage of classroom supplies. We have been implementing repititive practice as one of the strategies in teaching and re-teaching skills and it has been very helpful in maintaining the skills they learned. We use a lot of dry erase markers, sheet protectors, and teacher-made laminated materials for them to practice writing, math and reading skills on a daily basis. However, markers never seem to last long and sheet protectors slowly get stained and crumpled from frequent use. Although they have been so patient about dealing with this problem, most of my students find it distracting and it affects the quality of their work. By donating to our project, you will not only help my students be closer to their academic goals but you will also increase their motivattion to learn and ultimately, help increase their overall academic achievement. My students won't have to worry about working for the same reinforcers everyday, use stained materials, deal with fading markers and other supplies necessary for them to keep engaged. Most of all, they will have more reasons to be excited for school and have fun while learning.
