During Covid, students were not able to travel and socialize with their peers so through an after school hour club meeting, students will be able to learn about the different cultures and backgrounds their peers come from as well as learning about the different cultures around the world. Students will be able to "travel" to different countries by submerging themselves academically and socially into the different cultures being presented at each meeting through the help of various books, activities, and crafts related to each different culture they learn about. The Russian nesting dolls, for example, will be used to celebrate Russia and learn about Russia's people and traditions such as Russian Christmas. The paper carp fish will be used to celebrate Japan, and the passports will be stamped throughout the year to represent the various countries and cultures we have learned about. The goal of each meeting is to travel to a different country by learning about the country, its people, culture, and traditions, and then follow up with a hands-on activity related to the country students just learned about. SS.6-8.EWC.22. Analyze the intellectual, cultural, religious, and artistic contributions of ancient civilizations to our modern world of racially and ethnically diverse people SS.9-12.WH.25. Investigate and apply the successful principles used by groups and nations in order to create communities of respect, equity, and diversity at the school and local level.
