With the new Covid rules and social distancing, student lunches are now eaten outside in the courtyard. While students enjoy eating outside, the courtyard is a bit run-down and could use a makeover. With that in mind, my eighth grade students decided to take on the task of improving the courtyard. This includes cleaning-up the courtyard, making repairs, painting murals, adding a sensory path, planting shrubs, and installing a canopy. These planters will be planted with shrubs and perennials that will serve as a windbreak and will make the courtyard a beautiful learning space. Via this project, my students are not only learning, but are making a lasting contribution to their community. They have done all the planning and necessary research and presented their project to administration and the Board of Education. They have also already completed one fundraising activity. They are excited, motivated, and ready to work! Please help them to achieve their goal by making a contribution to the Beautification of Buck Alley Project.
