These materials will make a difference because many first graders are unable to write and create sentences. My first graders express themselves through pictures and drawings. I have limited supplies of crayons, pencils, construction paper, and playdough in my classroom. These supplies will help them be proud of their expressions and work toward becoming better writers and communicators. Every day we read stories, and the children are asked to either draw their favorite part or we break the story down through a story map. Pictures are always a part of what we do to make the connection between reading and writing.
