My students will benefit greatly from these resources as they build their social emotional skills and work on building healthy academic and social relationships. The opportunity to build life skills is the heart of this project, as students are in need of peer social interaction and can use the on campus serenity room to work on those soft skills through game play, communication, and social skill building exercises. This project will focus on the need to integrate SEL and SEAD competencies. Our return to face to face instruction after an extended closure due to Covid-19 has made it more important than ever to build relationships, to focus on advocacy, and service. I. Social Awareness: : Understanding what others are feeling: being able to take their perspective; appreciating and interacting positively with diverse groups. II. Relational Skills: handling emotions in relationships effectively: establishing and maintaining healthy and rewarding relationships based on solutions to conflict, and seeking help when needed. III. Responsible Decision Making: avoiding risky behaviors, dealing honestly and fairly with others; an ability to make decisions and solve problems on the basis of accurately defining decisions to be made and anticipating the consequences of each—learning from one’s decision making.
