Research shows that sensory play builds nerve connections in the brain's pathways. Those pathways then lead to a child's ability to complete more complex learning tasks. Sensory play supports language development, cognitive growth, fine and gross motor skills, problem-solving skills, and social interaction. Children are developing all of these skills at a rapid rate, and access to sensory play will help accelerate their development. As we build the PRES beginning program, we are seeking ways to increase opportunities for children to develop their skills through sensory play. A sensory table and sensory tools will allow us to provide even more sensory-rich activities for the children in our program. Currently, we are using small, individual tubs for sensory play. A larger table will provide a space for children to interact with sensory materials as a community, allowing for greater social interaction, an area we are also looking to provide more opportunities for growth.
