Students in our 5th grade classroom are at all different reading levels, ranging from just learning to read in English to students reading at a middle school level, and everything in between. This variety of reading levels is due to inconsistency with schooling during Covid, ESOL students arriving to the country, and several other factors. Because of this wide range of abilities, students are often engaged in different small groups and learning activities. A quiet learning environment will help students participate and stay focused in small group and individual learning activities. Earbuds will help students with their listening and reading skills, as well as limit distractions. Tennis balls on the bottom of chairs will help students freely move about the room to the next learning activity without causing disruptions.
