My students are eager to learn to play an musical instrument. Covid restrictions have prevented us from our typical experience of playing recorders. The ukulele provide a safer alternative and is age appropriate. They will be able to work in teams, small groups, as well as perform with a large ensemble which gives a much-needed opportunity to for healthy social interactions after periods of isolation due to quarantines. They can work independently to build musicianship skills. First and foremost, it will give all students a chance to play ukulele in music class. I have also included some other percussion instruments. We have been doing bucket drumming with aluminum cans from the school cafeteria so we need drum sticks. The primary grades enjoy scarf dances and the egg shakers.
