The materials and supplies that I am requesting will help my students build a solid foundation to grow their reading upon. With a year and a half of uncertain and challenging learning environments, many students are struggling with basic phonics skills. One of the learning standards for first grade, Reading Foundational Skills 1.2, is to understand the spoken word, syllables, and phonemes. Having materials to aid in running small groups will help me meet students at their current learning levels. Small groups provide students with personalized instruction with content that meets their current needs. With each successful small group, students are building a strong reading foundation and bridging any gaps in learning due to Covid.
