The constraints of social distancing and distance learning over the last year has created a social challenge, as many children were not immersed in a social setting prior to entering first grade. Therefore, to foster the social development of a child and to help learn how to interact with peers while practicing important skills, it is imperative to incorporate hands-on learning opportunities in the general education classroom. The products and materials I included will allow my students to work in small cooperative groups while practicing imperative skills to be successful in school. The math manipulatives will help my students practice all of the standards under the Operations and Algebraic Thinking. With the added practice they will be able to master 1.OA.6 Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10. Use strategies such as counting on; making ten decomposing a number leading to a ten; using the relationship between addition and subtraction; and creating equivalent but easier or known sums. The ELA manipulatives with help my students work on standard RF.1.3 Know and Apply Grade Level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words. They will also be able to practice L.1.1. Demonstrate the command of the conventions of the standard English grammar and usage when speaking and listening. Thank you for giving my little learners this opportunity!
