Our students have suffered major setbacks in their mathematical learning progress due to missing a quarter of school in the Spring of 2020, along with distance learning, for most, throughout the 2020-2021 school year. Learning math is very difficult in a virtual environment as students don't feel as connected or involved in their learning. Hands-on learning is where my math students come alive! Students enjoy using dry-erase boards because they build students’ mathematical confidence when they work collaboratively. It also allows me to quickly address misconceptions and assess my students' understanding. Using whiteboards for graphing or other math work increases student motivation and attentiveness! Virtually all Algebra and Geometry standards can be addressed with the use of individual white boards. Through A-REI (reasoning with equations and inequalities) algebra students can graph linear equations and inequalities; exponential, absolute value, and quadratic functions; systems of linear equations and inequalities; and transformations of functions. In Geometry, students perform isometric transformations on the coordinate plane (G.CO.A.5 and G.CO.B.6); use coordinates to prove simple geometric theorems (G.GPE.B.4); graph and compare parallel and perpendicular lines (G.GPE.B.5), and much more!
