I am promoting early literacy practices to build strong reading skills at school and at home. It is most important to encourage each of our African American male students to develop into life- long readers. Access to books at home will help them learn to love reading. In addition, access to books at home fosters stronger relationships between parent and child as they snuggle together to read. Parents are their child’s first and most important teachers. Books in the home empower parents to teach and support their child’s reading development. A quote I like to share is “students need ample amount of time to read, and be read to so their knowledge, vocabulary, and love of reading builds”. If this project is funded, you will gift each student a personal book. Join me as we support these students in their reading endeavors.
