New research shows that current reading curriculums are only effective for 40% of our students. This research is showing that we need to turn towards decodable books and focus on phonemic awareness. Unfortunately, our schools do not yet have all the resources necessary to deliver this research-based approach. All of my students will utilize these materials daily to become proficient readers. In this project, I have requested a teacher pay teacher gift card to buy a large set of decodable books that align with the science of reading. These books will be used in the classroom and also can be sent home for students to read. I have also requested some engaging and age-appropriate tools that will scaffold instruction and make learning fun. The “tap and write” resource help students learn to decode and break apart words for reading and writing. Magnetic bingo chips and wands will allow students to segment words, then blend them together to support reading. With your help, I will be able to provide my students with the tools they need to become proficient readers and amazing scholars.!
