The color printer and ink will be used to print materials IN COLOR so that students can better grasp concepts, and ideas. Currently, I only have the ability to print in black and white. This greatly reduces details, additionally, when teaching reading and writing we use different colors for coding different aspects of text such as important vocabulary, figurative language, and literary devices, main idea, and details. Additionally, our fifth-grade team color codes writing projects to ensure students have included the necessary component of the task. Each component is a certain color and the students depend on these colors to be able to self-assess their work. When in black and white, students are limited in their capacity to use these important strategies. Color copies will enhance Standards-based instruction in the areas of RL 5.7 (Analyze how visual and multimedia elements contribute to the meaning, tone, or beauty of a text (e.g., graphic novel, multimedia presentation of fiction, folktale, myth, poem), RL5.2 (Analyze how visual and multimedia elements contribute to the meaning, tone, or beauty of a text (e.g., graphic novel, multimedia presentation of fiction, folktale, myth, poem). W 5.1-3 (Write opinion, narrative, and informational pieces.)
