I need canvases, brushes, paints, and clay for my art students use during class. The paints I use run out very quickly because I have 200 students and I teach at an at risk school that doesn't have much funding to purchase these supplies for my students. I need the clay for students who like to work with their hands. Art making has the ability to move people along their journey of grief and loss into a more balanced place of healing and hope and in the face of tragedy, the creative process can help re-calibrate a mourner’s life (The Chandler Gallery at Maud Morgan Arts).” Many of the students relax when they are able to create without rules and boundaries. Many of my students have experienced great trauma and being able to paint or create art allows them to heal. One of the standards in art has students conceiving and developing new artistic ideas and work. I want students to be able to formulate an artistic investigation of personally relevant content for creating (their) art VA:Cr1.6.2. Acrylics give clear and distinct colors as it is easy for the students to use. The students learn about color mixing/ light vs dark/ thin vs thick/ little vs a lot, etc. These are important skills that can later be carried into the workplace.
