These items will be used to complete our Unit 3 Arts Integration Project. This project will be completed by all 360 Middle School Students at my school. Students will use their 8x8 canvas to create a Piet Mondrain type painting. They will then use Primary Colors and Black to paint portions that they chose. The math portion of the will ask specific questions depending on their grade level 6th and 7th Grades will be asked to express the colors in their painting using a part to whole ratio with area, and then express it as a percent of the whole. 8th Graders will complete the same task as 6th and 7th Graders. In addition they will also be tasked with creating similar rectangles in their drawing and calculating their scale factor. The product that student create will allow them to visually see our part to whole ratios in a colorful real life situation. The process allows the students to deepen their understanding of several crucial math standards.
