Reading is by far, one of the most important skills to learn and hone when you are in school. Learning to love reading is just as important as learned reading skills. However, you can't do that with the stories that you read with the teacher during reading time. Learning to love reading is when you get to choose your own book that sparks your interest, warps you to a different dimension, and connects you to a character like you've never thought would be possible. While my students love to read, and share about their reading, they are limited since they do not have access to the school library due to budget shortages. Without our librarian, the students are not allowed to check out books from the school library, which was their primary place to get books to help build that love of reading. Now it is up to the teachers to provide those books to students from their own classroom libraries. My students love reading from an array of genres; these books are of high interest, extremely popular, and my students would be enchanted them all. They love The Dogman Series because it makes them laugh the most. They love fantasies and novels that allow them to empathize with a character whose narrative is both a mirror and a window to their life. These books will help further their love for reading or start to get them to love it.
