I am requesting class sets of "All American Boys," and "Brown Girl Dreaming" so I can incorporate them in to my curriculum. I plan to incorporate these books into my 7th and 8th grade English Language Arts curriculum because I think it is important for my students to read about topics and issues they relate to. I personally learn best when I have some sort of connection or interest in what I am reading/writing. Like my students, I tend to go astray when I cannot relate or personally understand the topic at hand. That said, I think it is important for all of my students to feel represented in the books we read and the stories they write.
