In a special education classroom we encounter different challenges than a general education classroom. We try to incorporate new innovative tools and ideas to keep children engaged and interested in learning. Some things the students would benefit from this year are fidgets, wiggle cushions, bean bag chairs, sensory based tools and incentives for our reward system. Movement helps balance their sensory system, incentives reinforce positive behaviors, sensory tools help in developing fine motor skills and a reading corner will allow a place to take a break or self regulate. All beneficial in helping the students develop and grow in an academic setting.
