The first item I have requested is a scanner. With many students in and out of the classroom due to covid exposure and quarantine, I will be able to scan and get papers to students in quick order, as opposed to making copies and dropping them off on a porch step. This will also allow students more immediate access to materials and will allow me to correct and provide feedback in a timely fashion.
I have also requested a number of social-emotional and character building books. I plan to use these as read-alouds with my class. Students will have discussions and will then write in response to the books. This will allow students the ability to have character traits reinforced, as well as the opportunity to discuss with peers. I believe that if students develop strong social-emotional skills and positive character attributes early in life, it will benefit them throughout life. It will not only effect them, but those around them for many years to come.
These books will directly benefit the 19 students in my class, but the impact can be far reaching. Other second grade classes will be welcome to use these books as well, so the potential number of students reached by this can be far more.
