The last normal school year for my 4th graders was when they were in 1st grade. I've recognized that my students need to refocus on their happiness and find joy in their day-to-day routines. I try to instill in my students that it's important to believe in themselves and by doing so they can find ways to be grateful, kind, choose positivity, and enjoy the the small things in life. When I discovered the HappyMe Journal, it spoke to me. It grouped together what I love and want for my students daily on a social-emotional level. The HappyMe Journal will give my students an opportunity to rediscover their joy, gratefulness and have a growth mindset by completing a 5-10 minute daily journaling experience. I would like to incorporate daily into my schedule 10 minutes of social-emotional learning. The lessons begin with what is happiness, why it is important and where it comes from. In the journal, there are a variety of activities that have been shown to improve happiness. Students will practice gratitude, partake in activities that instill skills of being kind and helping others, learn how to be mindful and enjoy the present moment, and experience new things. I want to use the journal every day to help students establish good habits that will help them live a happier life. With some guidance, if students have their own journals, they can begin to take ownership of their social-emotional growth and development. My students and I thank you for choosing to support the HappyMe Journal experience in our classroom.
