My classroom has a big focus on social, behavioral, and communication skills. A bounce house will be a great way to emphasize these skills and an excellent motivator for my students. I will use the bounce house in my classroom as a reinforcer to encourage appropriate behavior skills. It also promotes creativity. It is also a great form of exercise for my students. The bounce house will also be a fun and engaging way for my students to practice peer interactions and essential skills in life such as turn-taking, waiting, sharing, and engaging in conversations. Not only will this activity be fun and motivating for my students, but it will also encourage the use of language/communication. Nevada Academic Content Standard L. K. 1 states, "Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking." We can also address standards such as Nevada Academic Content Standard K.C.C.A.1 (Count to 100 by ones and by tens.) by counting. At the same time, we wait for our turn, counting the balls in the bounce house, learning how many students are jumping, etc. The binding machine, laminating pouches, and Velcro will make communication notebooks for my students. Most of my students are non-verbal; therefore, I use a picture exchange system to communicate using pictures in their books. I print, laminate, and Velcro the images to their notebooks for easy access. This not only gives my students a voice but also provides independence as well.
