My goal is to create a library of diverse books for middle school aged children. Most of my students do not find joy in reading because they don't see themselves, their challenges or their communities reflected in the books they read. I have selected this list of books based on my students interests and reading levels. I hope that these stories can help me introduce students to reading for fun. Having access to these contemporary texts will help my students envision themselves in the lives of the stories' characters, and prepare students for more independent reading.
