Children’s STEM stories provide a great context for learning science. Adding story books increases the opportunity for important literacy development in a useful context. Picture books are developmentally appropriate and can explain scientific and mathematical concepts in new way. ( RI.1.10 with prompting and support, read information texts appropriately complex for grade 1 students) Providing a writing center will enable student to put their ideas to paper. Writing is an important skill that is easy to neglect or overlook and I want to create a love of writing in my classroom. Reading and writing go hand in hand and in order for our students to excel, they need to develop solid writing skills as well as strong reading skills. Creating an engaging classroom writing center is the perfect way to get my students to write independently, build and practice their skills, and have fun. Incorporating the writing center, literacy games and tools, with the STEM story books will round out the literacy (CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.1.7 participate in shared research and writing projects) rich environment I
