This project will not only give my low-income students free access to quality literature, but also addresses our reading standards:(2nd Grade: RL2.7): Use information gained from illustrations to demonstrate understanding of characters, setting or plot; (2nd Grade RL2.5): Describe the overall structure of a story. The books will be used to teach a variety of literary standards, as well as become mentor texts to inspire narrative writing. These Caldecott books, along with the stackable blocks, will also provide Social/Emotional Learning as the children enjoy the therapeutic benefits of a quality read-aloud.
