These books will enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create and help foster a sense of independence and success within my students. My classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy. I read on the carpet to them, they buddy read there, and read independently! We have learned that every student book that is placed in the library is to be treated with love and care, and they are thankful for the opportunities to read. To help students become more confident in their reading and to also help them practice the skills learned during guided reading, each student has a book baggie filled with books on their specific reading level. Students will be able to choose books, which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading time. With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read independently at their own grade level. They will also be able to choose books that interest them, that is on their reading level. Ideally each student should have 10 books in their book baggie that is on their independent reading level. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. It is amazing to see how much students grow in their reading abilities and how much more confident they become when they are able to read a book independently to their peers and teachers.
