One of the challenges of teaching during the pandemic is incresing ventilation and air quality. At our school, the windows are fixed, keeping fresh, outside air, well, outside. Students will be using the materials you donate to create 50 Corsi-Rosenthal box air purifiers for our classrooms and explore the engineering design process along the way. A Corsi-Rosenthal box air purifier is a 20" box fan duct taped to MERV 13 air filters which remove viruses from the air. As far as workload, they are compatible to $1000+ high end air purifiers! Students will measure classroom air quality to verify the effectiveness of the filters. These student built boxes will help mitigate coronavirus transmission and other particulates by cleaning classroom air. Each elementary homeroom will be rotating to the enrichment lab to build a box for their classroom. Students will customize their box with colorful duct tape options and brainstorm about design, build, improvement, optimal location, signage, infographics, distribution, and presentation. We hope to replicate this project to other schools and community partners. In other words, "a couple of [variants,] who were up to no good, started causing trouble in the neighborhood." Donate and become our Fresh Prince or Princess!
