First graders love to learn! They are so curious about the world around them. Having the opportunity to learn about the life cycle and watching eggs hatch will be an unforgettable experience for them. The students in my classroom do not come from a farming background and will learn about life science. Hatching eggs in the classroom is an opportunity to use the excitement and engagement of the egg hatching process across all of the curriculum. Students will be involved in collecting and displaying data, journaling, and writing about their project. Students will grow their vocabulary by reading books and instructions about the egg hatching process. Students will also meet the Next Generation Science standard 1-LS3-1 which is to make observations to construct an evidence-based account that young plants and animals are like, but not exactly like, their parents.
