I have chosen fiction and nonfiction books for my students to build literacy and connect their learning to stem projects. I have chosen different levels of fiction and nonfiction books to enhance their basic reading fluency. Having more decodable books would allow my students to have actual books in their hands where they can practice at their own reading level. This would also support their reading instruction and build their confidence. The nonfiction books support first-grade vocabulary to build their comprehension. The STEM activities correlate with first grade standards and my students will be able to connect to the reading standards with these projects.
