The calculators that I am requesting will be for a classroom set for on campus learning. I allow my students to use calculators during every lesson as a way to help build their confidence in their math abilities. Math is a difficult subject for most of my students and I've seen it time and time again, when they attempt to do some simple arithmetic without a calculator and get it wrong, their confidence in the lesson plummets. I always encourage them to try without the calculator first and use it as a tool to check their answer but some students need it more often than others. At the beginning of this school year I encouraged my students to purchase their own calculators as an extra sanitary precaution but majority lost their brand new calculators due to Hurricane Ida. Our school, also lost our entire collection of calculators due to flooding of our campus for Hurricane Ida. These calculators would be best used as a classroom set because purchasing calculators for all of my students would simply be too expensive at this time. My students have not complained once about being displaced in another school. They have not asked why we haven't received necessary items or help replacing things we've lost. They are just happy to be back at school period. I have students that didn't ask for help with getting school uniforms because they "didn't want to be a burden." Having someone help us with these calculators will give them a glimpse about how much they are truly cared for.
