The COVID-19 pandemic has been hard on our scholars and continues to be hard. Scholars are currently expected to sit at least three feet apart in the classroom. In some classrooms, this is manageable, desks and all. As for the music classroom, this is not possible with chairs, as it takes away our space to move and dance. Looking for creative solutions, I came to the conclusion that the best solution for this is to have scholars sit on the floor on Velcro sit spots. Keep in mind, our floors are concreate covered with carpet, so needless to say, it can be uncomfortable to sit on. In addition to the uncomfortable nature of the floor, scholars are not sure what to do with their bodies now. Chairs and desks give scholars clear perimeters for where their bodies need to be. Floors with dots on them simply do not. However, that is where the balance wobble dots come into play. Balance wobble spots gives students an alternative to the floor, not only providing a cushion, but also a place to wiggle and keep their bodies in check. This is considered part of a flexible seating arrangement, something general educators are easily able to provide in their classrooms. For the music classroom, I need something that scholars can move to the side easily when not needed, but still provide another choice for seating. The balance wobble spots give the students that and more.
