"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." - Dr. Seuss
I can't give them the world, but I can try to give them the ability to see the world through the pages of a book. For many students, reading is a safe place and allows them to see and experience things they may never get the chance too. Majority of my students have never gotten to experience the world around them besides the two gas stations, Dollar General, and the local food mart that is in their small town. The past two years have been extremely difficult for everyone but the impact it has had on student growth seems unreal. Out of 56 third graders, only 5% of students scored on-grade level while the rest tested 2-3 grade levels below.
I am a first-year teacher trying to give my students all the resources and materials possible to help them be as successful as possible but I am falling short for resources for my classroom library.
My goal is to build a comfortable, safe space for my students to go to so they can experience the fun and excitement that books can give them. For almost two years, my students have only been able to see what was on a computer screen. They have not been able experience the joy and excitement turning the page of a book can bring.
With the books and seating purchased through here, I believe my students will start to grow tremendously not only academically, but mentally and emotionally as well.
