My students are just beginning to learn to read in English, but they are in high school so they need to learn content vocabulary. A range of books at lower reading levels will help the students with content and also the English language. We will use the books in guided reading, independent reading, and at-home reading. Students will do hands-on science experiments and read about the science behind why things happen. They will be engaged, curious and excited to learn new things. Having access to a class set of books rather than single copies of books will make a big difference to how our class will learn.
