My students need the opportunity to experience the world and life through the words on the pages of books. For many of my students, school and the classroom is their refuge from the difficult challenges they face outside the school hours. Having access to books, allows them to have an "escape" from sometimes difficult situations that they face when they leave my classroom and our campus. The Orca Currents books allow my diverse level of readers the opportunity to read high interest books, while continuing to grow as readers. My students need to read 3-5 books a month to help them grow as readers and offer them a chance to be successful in and out of school. “It’s a great blessing if one can lose all sense of time, all worries, if only for a short time, in a book.” — Nella Last The Orca Books will open the door for my students to grow as readers and to become lifetime learners. More importantly, reading will allow them to experience life and the world beyond their own challenges.
