Creating the safest collaborative classroom in a small room with so many mathematically eager teenagers who have been trying their best to persevere through these unprecedented times... has been a struggle. The items I have chosen will focus on having students being grouped together so they can collaborate closely on large group (24x36) whiteboards and share resource markers. Due to being in groups and closely together in a small room of 40 students, I would like to be able to provide a safer environment with an large air purifier. I have already had 2 students throw up in my classroom this year. Even though they were wearing masks, it was an unfortunate experience and lingers until heavy duty cleaners can arrive shortly after. All the other supplies I request with aid in the above 2 items: I know the items I chose will make them feel secure and comfortable in my small classroom. While technology has been a huge push these last couple of years, I find the students have gotten lost in it all. Not only have the mathematical concepts been a struggle for them to catch up on this year… there has been a need to get back to tangible items. Students want to show how they are solving the problems, they want to write their own work by hand, and lay out all their ideas together at one time. I have been using a lot of paper again, but I am asking for a laminator machine so I can create wipeable reusable resources that students can always refer back to everyday and wipe down everyday. (Note: due to a very old projector, I also requested blackout curtains to help block more light so they can see all the material presented easier.
