We are currently working on the standard 7.RP.A.3, using percent proportions, percent equations, and benchmark percentages to find the percentage of another number. This will be used when they are out to eat and going to give a tip, or figuring out if they have enough for groceries including tax. To do this, and to ensure learning, I like to use whiteboards so I can see quickly my students' understanding, and I know who to work more with. They also love working with the whiteboard because it is different than paper and pencil. I also asked for colored pencils because it allows for a variety of different types of activities to demonstrate understanding of the concepts being taught in class. Math is a real-life skill that is needed outside of the classroom. My students will use the highlighters to visually pull out the parts of the questions that are relevant to what the question is asking, helping them prepare for not only SBAC, but also real-life. I have also requested flashcards with flashcard games in the cart for my students that struggle with multiplication and fractions. They haven't had enough practice in the past and are excited about learning.
