The hi-lo book series for each grade level requested will help our students practice & learn almost every possible reading standard & many of the writing standards. In addition, students who are excluded will be able to have a real book in their hands, instead of just hearing it read by a peer or their teacher. Students need to practice reading & talk about what they read every day to make progress. The Common Core Standards that all grade levels will be able to achieve are: CCSS.RL.2 Ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text. CCSS.RL.2.10 By the end of the year, read and comprehend literature, including stories and poetry, in the grade complexity band proficiently, with scaffolding as needed at the high end of the range. CCSS.RL.2.3. Describe how characters in a story respond to major events and challenges CCSS.RL.2.4 Describe how words and phrases (e.g., regular beats, alliteration, rhymes, repeated lines) supply rhythm and meaning in a story, poem, or song CCSS.RL.2.6 Acknowledge differences in the points of view of characters, including by speaking in a different voice for each character when reading dialogue aloud.
