We are developing a K-5 arts education program at Explorer Knowledge Academy Charter School. We are in need of basic art supplies to provide our students, both online learners, and in-person learners, with the supplies needed to explore the elements of art and principles of design by analyzing artwork in multiple contexts and by producing artwork in various media such as watercolor, oil pastels, graphic design, and mixed media. The art materials requested will provide the students with several years of art education. "Art is magic"! Art has the ability to heal and improve student achievement across curriculums. Studies on arts education programs have found that arts exposure improves students’ critical thinking, writing achievement, compassion for others, and increases students’ motivation to engage in cultural activities. Our arts education program aligns with the Nevada Academic Content Standards for visual arts. Students will develop thinking skills by analyzing artwork in multiple contexts and by producing artwork in various media such as markers, colored pencils, watercolor, oil pastel, and digital media (VA:Cr2.1.1 , VA:Cr1.2.2, VA:Re8.3.1 I, VA:Re7.4.1, VA:Re7.4.2). Due to the impact of COVID on our community, families are financially unable to donate the art supplies necessary to fulfill the needs of our Arts Education Program. Students will have the opportunity to use their imagination and creativity while using critical thinking skills and problem-solving skills, which will open the student’s vessel for greater academic achievement across the disciplines. Not only will this donation support our student’s social, emotional, and mental well-being, but it will provide drawing materials that are integral to visual invention, innovation, and transformation.
