The stress balls will help students learn self management skills. They will learn to manage their emotions and develop healthy coping strategies when faced with stressful situations in their everyday lives. During the month of December, I will be focusing on gratitude and encourage students to extend it to themselves and others. Each school year around the winter break, students get stressed out because of finals and in some cases face challenges at home. The plan it to combat the negative thoughts and emotions that arise. I plan to provide students with information, resources and opportunities centered around gratitude. The holiday ornament display will allow students to obtain an ornament with a wish/hope or expression of gratitude attached. They can keep the ornament or alter the wish/hope to express appreciation/gratitude for someone else in their life like a classmate, friend, teacher or coach and pass it on. Through participating they will demonstrate social and emotional maturity and behaviors appropriate to the situation. The goal is to encourage students to create a capacity for self care and hope/gratitude in the midst of adversity. During COVID, students lost out on many opportunities to be with friends and classmates, support and encourage one another or develop resilience. I hope through these resources and activities to provide them with the opportunity. These resources will help with the personal/social development standards from ASCA of PS:A1 Acquire Self-knowledge S:A1.5 Identify and express feelings, PS:A1.8 Understand the need for self-control and how to practice it. PS:A2 Acquire Interpersonal Skills, PS:A2.8 Learn how to make and keep friends. PS:C1 Acquire Personal Safety Skills and PS:C1.10 Learn techniques for managing stress and conflict.
