My students deserve quality books in their classroom. As a newer teacher, I don't have many books for my students to read. I want to see my students read for pleasure and interest.
Many of the books display diverse characters and cultures that will ensure each student will be represented.
I believe that once the students find something they enjoy reading, that their literacy skills will blossom and learning will become very fun!
Having a classroom library is a vital piece to fostering avid readers! Please help my students become lifelong readers.
More than ever we are seeing the impact of representation. Reading opens so many doors within the minds of young children and sadly the majority of children's literature feature white, male, able-bodied characters.
I want my students to use these books with diverse characters as mirrors and to see themselves in the stories represented.
When we can make connections through literature to people who are different from ourselves, we begin to see the world through new eyes.
My hope is that these books that feature diverse characters, cultures, and situations are just the first steps towards fostering meaningful conversations about the reality of the world we live in and how we can work towards uniting our community.
